What are the standardized assessments given to my third grader at Meadow Point Elementary?

Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS) - Given 3 times per year: fall, winter, spring

Assesses Reading Skills

A set of procedures and measures for assessing the acquisition of early literacy skills from kindergarten through sixth grade. They are designed to be short (one minute) fluency measures used to regularly monitor the development of early literacy and early reading skills.

Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) - Given 3 times per year: fall, winter, spring

Assesses Reading and Math Skills

MAP dynamically adapts to a student’s responses – as they take the test.

  • Answer a question correctly and the test presents a more challenging item
  • Miss a question, and MAP offers a simpler item

In this way, the test narrows in on a student’s learning level, engaging them with content that allows them to succeed.

Developmental Reading Assessment (DRA-2)  - Given 2 times per year: fall (screener), spring (outcome) Provides teachers with a method for assessing and documenting primary students' development as readers over time. Its purpose is to identify students’ reading level, defined as a text on which students meet specific criteria in terms of accuracy, fluency, and comprehension.

How can I help increase my child's academic achievement at home?

Lexile Reading List - Knowing your child's Lexile level will help you select appropriate books for them to read at home. Your child's lexile reading level is available from your child's teacher.

MAP Reading Assessment - This site is designed to give children practice with specific skills in reading. In order to use this site, it is helpful to know your child's MAP scores. This data was given to you at the beginning of the year, but is available from your child's teacher any time.

MAP Math Assessment - This site is designed to give children practice with specific skills in mathematics. In order to use this site, it is helpful to know your child's MAP scores. This data was given to you at the beginning of the year, but is available from your child's teacher any time.

Looking good! I wish I had this class when I was in 3rd Grade. I would be writing software by now.
